IBU confirmed the schedule of the SBWCH

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) has confirmed competition schedule for the Summer Biathlon World Championships in Otepää, 22-25 August 2024. A total of 12 medal sets will be handed out at Tehvandi Sports Centre.

Over the four days of competition, junior world champions will be crowned in the super sprint, sprint, and pursuit, while adults will compete in super sprint, sprint, and mass start. “In Otepää, finalists for the super sprint will be determined through preliminary races instead of the traditional individual start. This format update will, for sure, make the competitions more exciting to watch," said Hillar Zahkna, Chairman of the Competition Committee.

In preparation for the summer championships, several updates have been made at the Tehvandi Sports Center. Recently, Kristjan Oja, the IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships Race Director, conducted an official inspection on behalf of the international federation. "The competition centre and organizing committee are ready for the championships – improvements have been made to both the shooting range and the roller-ski track," said Mr. Oja. "The inspection confirmed that we are also ready to provide high-quality television broadcast."

According to Aivar Nigol, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, the Summer Biathlon World Championships will offer both sports excitement and diverse entertainment. "We expect fans of all ages to come and watch the competitions, as well as participate in various activities at the competition centre. In addition, you can enjoy well-known Estonian artists taking the stage in Otepää during the championships," said Nigol. The official entertainment program will be announced in July.
